Radical Dot is hiring a Chemistry & Lab Operations Technician (Chemielaborant/in – Analytik & Laborbetrieb) (m/w/o) to join our R&D team and help advance our pioneering process for converting mixed plastic waste into valuable chemical building blocks.

This role is a blend of classical analytical, research, QC, process, and synthesis lab work. It is an interdisciplinary job with many varied and exciting tasks.

You will work hands-on in the lab, supporting our team of scientists and engineers in developing, optimizing, and scaling our chemical recycling technology. Your hands-on expertise in analytical chemistry and maintenance will be key to ensuring high-quality data generation, reliable results, and smooth lab operations.

Deine Mission

Radical Dot sucht eine/n Chemielaborant oder Chemietechniker (m/w/d) zur Verstärkung unseres Teams. Du hilfst, unseren neuartigen Prozess zur Umwandlung gemischter Kunststoffabfälle in wertvolle chemische Bausteine voranzubringen.

Diese Rolle ist eine Mischung aus klassischem Analytik-, Forschungs-, QC-, Prozess- und Syntheselabor. Es ist ein interdisziplinärer Job mit vielen abwechslungsreichen und spannenden Aufgaben.

Du arbeitest praxisnah im Labor und unterstützt unser Team aus Wissenschaftler/innen und Ingenieur/innen bei der Entwicklung, Optimierung und Skalierung unserer Technologie für chemisches Recycling. Deine praktische Erfahrung in der analytischen Chemie und in der Instandhaltung ist entscheidend, um eine hohe Datenqualität, verlässliche Ergebnisse und reibungslose Laborabläufe sicherzustellen.

Tasks

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining lab equipment (e.g. reactors, analytical instruments), calibration, and documentation to ensure data integrity and compliance. Maintain preventative maintenance logs, perform simple troubleshooting and coordinate vendor interaction.
  • Keep our lab running: manage consumables, gases, and inventory with reorder points; maintain tidy, audit‑ready benches.
  • Conducting analytical measurements (i.e. GC-FID, titrations, XRF, GPC, TGA, and other methods) to characterize products, intermediates, and feedstocks.
  • Support the R&D team in sample preparation and standard reaction work-ups, including use of rotavap, flashing setups and filtration techniques.
  • Preparing, handling, and analyzing polymer, chemical, and liquid samples according to established methods and safety standards.
  • Assisting with method development and continuous improvement of analytical workflows including writing and updating SOPs
  • Collaborating closely with the team to interpret results and optimize experimental processes.
  • Support with SOP adherence, risk assessments, waste streams handling and regular PPE checks.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Wartung von Laborausstattung (z. B. Reaktoren, Analysegeräte), Kalibrierungen und Dokumentation zur Sicherung der Datenintegrität und Compliance. Führen von vorbeugenden Wartungsprotokollen, einfache Fehlersuche und Koordination mit externen Dienstleistern.
  • Den Laborbetrieb am Laufen halten: Verwaltung von Verbrauchsmaterialien, Gasen und Beständen mit Meldebeständen. Ordnung halten und arbeitsplatz- sowie auditgerechte Bereiche sicherstellen.
  • Durchführung analytischer Messungen (z. B. GC-FID, Titrationen, RFA/XRF, GPC, TGA und weitere Methoden) zur Charakterisierung von Produkten, Zwischenstufen und Einsatzstoffen.
  • Unterstützung des F&E-Teams bei der Probenvorbereitung und Standard-Aufarbeitungen von Reaktionen, einschließlich Nutzung von Rotationsverdampfer, Flash-Distillationsaufbauten und Filtrationstechniken.
  • Vorbereitung, Handhabung und Analyse von Polymer-, Chemikalien- und Flüssigproben gemäß etablierten Methoden und Sicherheitsstandards.
  • Mitarbeit bei der Methodenentwicklung und der kontinuierlichen Verbesserung analytischer Workflows, einschließlich Erstellen und Aktualisieren von SOPs.
  • Enge Zusammenarbeit im Team zur Interpretation von Ergebnissen und zur Optimierung experimenteller Prozesse.
  • Unterstützung bei SOP-Compliance, Gefährdungsbeurteilungen, Entsorgungs- und Abfallströmen sowie regelmäßigen PSA‑Kontrollen.
Requirements

Your Skillset

  • Vocational training (Chemietechniker, CTA, Chemielaborant/in, or equivalent) and/or degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in relevant laboratory set up as a chemical laboratory technician, analytical chemist, or similar role.
  • Experience operating and maintaining bench‑scale pressure reactors (i.e. Parr reactors, etc) and familiarity with standard maintenance and operation.
  • Hands-on experience in analytical chemistry in techniques such as GC, HPLC, IC, and spectroscopy.
  • Solid understanding of laboratory safety standards and best practices for handling chemicals.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-driven.
  • Proficiency in English; German is a strong advantage.

Dein Profil

  • Abgeschlossene Ausbildung (Chemietechniker/in, CTA, Chemielaborant/in o. ä.) und/oder Studium der Chemie, Verfahrenstechnik oder eines verwandten Fachs.
  • 3+ Jahre Berufserfahrung in einem relevanten Laborumfeld als Chemielaborant/in, Analytiker/in oder in einer ähnlichen Rolle.
  • Erfahrung im Betrieb und in der Instandhaltung von Druckreaktoren im Bench‑Scale (z. B. Parr-Reaktoren) sowie Vertrautheit mit Standardbetrieb und -wartung.
  • Praxis in analytischer Chemie, z. B. GC, HPLC, IC und Spektroskopie.
  • Fundiertes Verständnis von Laborsicherheitsstandards und bewährten Vorgehensweisen im Umgang mit Chemikalien.
  • Ausgeprägte organisatorische Fähigkeiten, Genauigkeit und Eigeninitiative.
  • Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse. Deutschkenntnisse sind von großem Vorteil.

The Offered Set Up
