Our team and mission

The Real Estate and Facilities Management (REFM) Department is responsible for eight sites across Europe, with a total of approximately 250,000sqm of working space as well as technical facilities, and a population of over 7,000 staff and contractors.  



EAC is the European centre of excellence for astronaut training, operations and space medicine. With a total of approximately 14,000sqm of working space, it is equipped with a range of specialist training facilities. The site has a population of over 200 staff and contractors. EAC is located on the campus of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). 



REFM is responsible for managing a variety of contracted Facility Management services. We also required to deliver the strategic oversight of the site by applying your competences and skills in a wide variety of domains: people management, compliance, crisis management and business continuity, maintenance and operations, safety and security, asset management, capital and operating planning and expenditure.

Are you studying architecture, civil engineering, or facilities management? Join a team that supports the planning, maintenance, and development of infrastructure at one of Europe's leading space mission centres. This internship offers hands-on experience in managing complex facilities in a high-tech environment.



As an intern, you will:

  • assist in the planning and coordination of building maintenance and renovation projects.
  • support the review of architectural and engineering drawings.
  • help monitor compliance with safety, sustainability, and accessibility standards.
  • contribute to space planning and optimisation of office layouts.
  • participate in site inspections and reporting on infrastructure conditions.
  • collaborate with internal teams and external contractors.


By the end of the internship, you will: 

  • understand the operational challenges of managing technical and administrative facilities.
  • gain experience in interpreting and applying architectural and engineering documentation.
  • learn how to integrate sustainability and safety into infrastructure planning.
  • develop project coordination and communication skills.
  • build awareness of international standards and best practices in facilities management.

Education

You must be a university student, preferably studying at master's level. In addition, you must be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset. 

During the interview, your motivation for applying to this role will be explored. 

Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, MS Project, BIM tools). 

Familiarity with German construction standards and safety regulations. Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, PRINCE2). Ability to assist in scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
