Main tasksBasic researchers and clinician scientists form functional and interacting research units at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. The Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1700 entered its first funding period on April 1, 2025, and we are looking for dedicated scientists in the fields of immunology, cell biology, biomedicine, molecular medicine, human biology, or biochemistry for the new junior research group led by Hao Huang, PhD.
This project is embedded within the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1700, "Immune regulation of the liver: from homeostasis to disease". It contributes to the CRC's overarching goal of understanding the mechanisms of hepatic immune regulation that govern the development of tolerance or immune activation. By integrating analyses of valuable human liver biopsies with cutting-edge mouse models, we aim to dissect the ontogeny and functional specialization of heterogeneous hepatic macrophage populations in liver diseases, such as primary sclerosing cholangitis and autoimmune hepatitis.
Your tasks:
- Conduct and analyze complex experimental studies using human biopsies and mouse models
- Apply and develop cutting-edge techniques in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology
- Establish and maintain collaborative projects within CRC1700 and with international collaborators
- Present research findings at internal events as well as national and international conferences
- Preparation of research articles of the project and any topic-related review articles
- Contribute to peer reviewing work
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students
This position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis at a rate of 65% of full time weekly working hours and is limited in time from February 1, 2026, to January 31, 2029 in accordance with the WissZeitVG.
Your Profile- Completed scientific studies (Master of Science degree) in immunology, cell biology, biomedical sciences, molecular medicine, human biology, biochemistry, or a related life science field
- Hands-on experience or strong interests in high-dimensional flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, cell culture, animal experimentation, bioinformatic analyses
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary cooperation within a big consortium, as well as with collaborators internationally
- Good communication skills
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Please note that employment is contingent upon proof of immunization or immunity against the measles virus, in accordance with applicable legal and medical requirements. Documentation (e.g., vaccination certificate) must be provided before employment begins.
