The Role

(Electro-)chemical Technicians within the Cell Development team focus on preparing and performing hands-on work on electrochemical and physical/chemical experiments to provide data to materials engineers. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, be safety conscious, display attention to detail, be adaptable, have good communication skills, and be able to work in a team-based environment. The successful candidate will safely, reliably, and efficiently operate lab equipment according to Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).

What You'll Do- Communicate with team members and engineers regarding safety, production, quality, and operational issues
- Conduct electrochemical experiments (e.g., casting of lithium-ion battery electrodes, preparing electrolyte mixtures, assembly of test cells, working in a glovebox environment, etc.) in accordance with all safety, quality, and efficiency standards by reliably following detailed written and verbal work instructions
- Perform dissection of large-format battery cells, analysis and documentation of cell components with the goal to identify and prove failure modes
- Conduct chemical/physical analytics (e.g., titration, ICP-OES, BET, particle size analysis, etc.) in accordance with all safety, quality, and efficiency standards by reliably following detailed written and verbal work instructions
- Perform calibrations on equipment
- Conduct data collection and data input
- Maintain clean and safe work areas
- Perform any other tasks assigned by supervising engineers
What You'll Bring- Qualification as a chemical technician (e.g., Chemical Technical Assistant) or relevant experience
- Perform hands-on lab work for ca. 80%, data collection/analysis for ca. 20% of working time
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in a glovebox environment for extended periods of time

The Preferred Candidate Will Have- Experience working in a lab environment (experience in working in a glovebox is a plus)
- Experience operating chemical lab equipment
- Experience preparing and performing lithium-ion battery related electrochemical tests is a plus
- Proven ability to reliably and independently follow procedures in great detail and to report results
- Ability to adapt to changing demands and to react positively to verbal instructions
- Ability to work overtime and weekends if required
- Desire to work hard and be dependable
- Good basic understanding of computer software (e.g., powerpoint, excel)
- Good math skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- Participation in a post-secondary program with focus on Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science is a plus
