As a Senior Backend Engineer for our
Nexus DataBus
, you will help design and implement the
event‑driven data backbone
that powers Shopware's next‑generation
integration and automation platform – Nexus
. The DataBus is the
real‑time streaming and transformation layer
connecting
Shopware instances
,
third‑party systems
(ERP, PIM, OMS, CRM), and the
Nexus workflow engine
. Your work will ensure
performance, reliability, and extensibility
across
thousands of tenants and integrations
.

This role is ideal for engineers passionate about
distributed event systems

, with an interest in evolving toward
end‑to‑end ownership
across the full integration stack.

This position can be filled
on‑site, hybrid, or full‑remote
within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered. Your
work location
will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your
employment contract
.

These are your tasks:

• You design and maintain scalable, event‑driven backend services in Golang – covering core DataBus services, ingestion, transformation, and routing.
• To keep events flowing reliably, you implement and optimise event streaming pipelines using Kafka or Redpanda.
• Robust data transformation and validation logic for commerce entities such as products, stock, and orders becomes part of your daily craft.
• For integrations at scale, you design and maintain multi‑tenant, cloud‑native APIs (REST and GraphQL) that external systems can depend on.
• Together with peers, you advance observability and monitoring using OpenTelemetry, metrics, and tracing, ensuring data reliability and fault tolerance.
• In collaboration with the platform team, you optimise AWS‑based deployments (ECS/EKS, Terraform/IaC, S3, Secrets Manager).
• To guarantee resilience, you engineer backpressure, retry, and failover mechanisms across distributed workloads.
• At the architectural level, you contribute to multi‑tenant scalability and data isolation throughout the event‑driven system.
• Optionally, you explore frontend integration with the Nexus workflow builder to visualise data flows end to end.

This is what you'll bring to the table:

• With 5+ years of backend experience in Golang or another statically typed language (e.g., Rust, Java), you bring the foundation needed for complex systems.
• Experience with distributed systems and high‑availability architectures enables you to design resilient services.
• Knowledge of API design (REST/GraphQL), data modeling, and database performance (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis) helps you ship reliable interfaces.
• A proven understanding of event streaming systems (Kafka, Redpanda, NATS or similar) allows you to build high‑throughput pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud environments (preferably AWS) and containerised deployments using Docker and CI/CD pipelines supports efficient delivery.
• An understanding of microservice architectures, Pub/Sub messaging, and stream processing (e.g., Flink or similar) rounds out your toolkit.
• Clear, honest, and direct communication, a willingness to explore and innovate, and strong problem‑solving skills help you collaborate effectively across teams.
• An interest in low‑code/workflow automation tools and the confidence to take ownership and drive topics to completion define how you work.
• While not required, experience with Redpanda Connect or similar managed streaming platforms, exposure to Flink, Kubernetes, or Terraform, familiarity with the Shopware ecosystem or ecommerce data models, and a background in observability pipelines or multi‑tenant SaaS services will set you up for exceptional impact.
• Fluent English skills are essential for this role.
