Systems Engineer Quantum Technologies (m/f/d)

Your Tasks

Your focus will span the full systems engineering lifecycle—from requirements definition to testing, validation, and verification—at both the end-to-end system level and subsystem level.

In your daily work this will translate into following key responsibilities:

Quantum Technologies & Secure Communication

• Contribute to studies and early-phase projects (Phases 0/A/B) focused on quantum technologies
• Support implementation projects (Phases B/C/D/E) with emphasis on secure and quantum communication systems

Systems Engineering

• Define and manage customer, mission, and system requirements
• Develop specifications for systems and subsystems, including interface engineering
• Define technical baselines for systems and subsystems
• Technical budget definition e.g. by implementating downlink simulation models of atmospheric physical effects like atmospheric propagation effects such as attenuation, turbulence and polarization
• Perform trade-offs of technical and programmatic solutions

Testing, Validation & Verification

• Plan and execute test campaigns at system and subsystem levels
• Conduct laboratory work to support validation and verification activities
• Analyze and trade-off performance-related parameters particular on E2E system level

Project & Work Package Management

• Manage work packages and smaller (sub-)projects
• Represent the work packages and/or sub-project(s) as technical point-of-contact towards sucontractors and customers

Proposal Development

• Participate in or lead proposal creation, particularly in the domain of quantum technologies
• Define technical baselines and development logic for proposals
• Define study and development logic, including work breakdown structures
• Support budget definition and engineering activities

Your Qualifications

• Master degree in electrical engineering, space engineering, physics, or equivalent. Ideally with a focus on quantum optics / quantum technologies
• Solid background in electrical engineering with hands-on experience in laboratory environments and hardware testbeds
• Experience in free-space optical communication, photonics, or quantum communication systems and technology
• Experience in end-to-end validation and verification of optical hardware testbeds, ideally for applications in the space industry
• Knowledge in optical satellite communication links and atmospheric propagation effects such as attenuation, turbulence and polarization
• Knowledge in the design and implementation of downlink simulations, models of atmospheric physical effects and link budget calculation
• Experience in Assembly, Integration, Testing and Verification (AIT/V) processes in accordance with space engineering standards would be a plus
• Experience in preparing AIT documentation, including test plans, procedures, test reports and non-conformance records would be a plus
