We are strengthening our global IP team in Leverkusen and seeking a qualified European and/or German Patent Attorney. In this role, you will manage a dedicated patent portfolio with global responsibility, protect our investment into innovations, and contribute to the global IP strategy of Covestro. You will collaborate with both the international IP community and business stakeholders.

In addition to our diverse benefits, you can expect an attractive starting salary between 111,300 €/year and 139,100 €/year plus a variable component for a full-time position. The starting salary is based on your qualifications and professional experience.

How you will shape Covestro's intellectual property landscape:
- You implement and execute the global IP strategy for business entities through integration of patents, IP agreements, and trade secrets- Strategic advice is provided by you to R&D teams on conceptual aspects of IP portfolio development while conducting regular assessments of the global IP pipeline-
- Legal representation of Covestro becomes your responsibility in patent prosecution, oppositions and revocation actions in Europe while instructing outside counsel for matters outside Europe- Complex legal opinions on third-party patents are delivered by you, including validity assessments, infringement analyses and practical risk management strategies- You support less experienced IP professionals and provide training sessions to ensure up-to-date knowledge on IP topics across the organization

Your expertise that will make you successful:
- University degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Engineering, with a PhD being highly beneficial- Your technical background is in the field of chemistry, polymer chemistry, technical chemistry, or engineering. Experience in engineering and/or process technology and/or software supported technologies should be your main focus area- Qualification as European Patent Attorney (EPC/UPC) and/or national Patent Attorney with knowledge in CN, JP and US IP Law- Minimum of 5 years working experience as Patent Attorney or in the IP field, covering patent drafting, prosecution, opposition proceedings and enforcement actions- You identify IP issues beyond patent law and make complex patent matters understandable to non-specialists while providing business-aligned recommendations-
- Strong cross-cultural communication skills complement your excellent time management, prioritization and organizational abilities- Fluent communication skills in English, with German language skills being advantageous

This position requires occasional international travel (1-2 per year)
