THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As Applied Scientist (Forecasting) in the Markets organization, you will work in the Applied Science Forecasting team working with exceptional Applied Scientists to create bold research experiments with today's most exciting State-of-the-Art approaches in the scientific field. You will be contributing to the team developing cutting-edge forecasting solutions that will support the steering of Zalando’s $10Bn+ Business.
You will take the responsibility of developing machine learning solutions for our multiple KPI, timescale and time granularity forecasting problems. You will empower the team to stay up-to-date with the latest research in Forecasting Science for Demand Planning (e.g. forecasting market demand, logistics KPIs, etc). You will provide egoless and constructive scientific feedback to peers to become great researchers.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
You will be a senior contributor in our Applied Science team
Take the ownership in planning, developing, and monitoring the scientific solutions addressing the business problems of our stakeholders
Rigorous approach in solving, conducting, and documenting research projects
Good communication skills to translate (even complex) analytical / engineering decisions and outcomes to broader, non-technical audience
Work closely with ML engineers, applied scientists, and product team members in demand forecasting domain to bring our state of the art solutions to customers
Raise the scientific bar across your team and Zalando through publications in prestigious international conferences, and engaging in rigorous peer reviews. Actively collaborate with other teams and share knowledge and expertise within our talented applied science community.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU HAVE
Strong academic background in a STEM field or equivalent
Strong experience in Demand Forecasting science
Strong problem solving skills for Data Science
Experience in demand forecasting science related projects (e.g. full lifecycle of deep learning forecasting)
Experience or knowledge in causal machine learning
Strong Experience with Python in applied context - experience with ML frameworks (Pytorch, tensorflow, etc) applied for forecasting problems
Fluent business English.
Self-driven, intrinsic motivation for result implementation (action orientation).
**Good to have**: Familiarity with machine learning infrastructure and tooling, such as Databricks, Spark, relational databases, AWS SageMaker, S3, EC2, Step Functions, Git
