Export Controls Specialist

Van Leeuwen is an international company committed to compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement. Within our Compliance team, we are looking for a dedicated Export Controls Specialist who will play a key role in ensuring adherence to international trade regulations and supporting our Operating Companies (OpCos).

**Your Role**

As an Export Controls Specialist, you will be the expert on international trade restrictions, export controls, and customs matters within our organization. Reporting directly to the Head of Compliance, you will collaborate closely with various departments including Compliance, Tax, and Operations. Your expertise is essential to ensure that our activities comply with the complex and ever-evolving regulations concerning trade sanctions, export licenses, and customs procedures.

You will coordinate the network of local export controls representatives across all OpCos, providing training, advice, and up-to-date information. You will also oversee compliance with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), including reporting and implementation. Supporting EU import processes, you will provide guidance on customs formalities, import quotas, VAT issues, and safeguard measures.

In addition to these key responsibilities, you will provide operational support to the Head of Compliance by performing compliance monitoring activities and contributing to projects related to sustainability regulations such as CSRD and CSDDD. You will help improve compliance systems and maintain policies on trade sanctions and import procedures.

**What You Will Do**
- Stay informed and advise on international trade sanctions, export controls, and customs regulations.
- Coordinate the export controls representatives network and deliver training across all OpCos.
- Monitor and support CBAM reporting and implementation within the organization.
- Advise on EU import processes and manage customs formalities, including quotas and safeguard measures.
- Support screening of suppliers and customers and provide guidance on export licenses and tax/VAT issues.
- Maintain contact with customs authorities and other relevant bodies.
- Support the Head of Compliance in monitoring activities and compliance projects.

**What You Bring**
- At least a Bachelor's level of education, preferably in compliance, international trade, law, logistics, or a related field.
- Experience with export controls, trade sanctions, and customs regulations in an international environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide training and advice effectively.
- Analytical and detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities.
- Fluent in at least English.
