The research group of the Institute of Medical Genetics (Director Prof. Dr. med. Marc-Phillip Hitz, PhD), Medical Campus of the University of Oldenburg, has a vacancy for the following position:
**Computer biologist/bioinformatician (M/F/d)**
(salary according to E13 TV-L, 100 %)

The position is to be filled as soon as possible for a period of 3 years with a potential extension afterwards. The possibility for own scientific qualification (habilitation) is given and the position is also suitable for part-time work.

The position will be hosted at the Institute of Medical Genetics at the University of Oldenburg. Our group uses multi-omic approaches (genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic analysis) to elucidate the molecular basis of several human pathologies, including congenital heart diseases (CHD), cancer, and different rare diseases.

These cutting-edge approaches generate a large amount of valuable biological data. The position holder is expected to perform sequencing data analysis, develop computational pipelines for pathogenic variant filtering, and identify genetic alterations and molecular mechanisms.

**Your responsibilities**:

- Establish bioinformatic pipelines for evaluating diverse NGS datasets, including case-control association studies in cardiovascular genetics and other human diseases.
- Establishment of cloud-based genomic NGS data analyses using GATK/Hail.
- Perform variant prioritization analysis in patients with CHD
- Establishment of machine learning frameworks for the analysis of spatial single-cell data sets
- Participation in student teaching
- Collaboration/proposal of scientific projects

**Your qualifications**:

- Completed university degree (master or equivalent) in the natural and/or computational sciences.
- Completed doctorate in Bioinformatics/Human Genetics or related fields.
- Programming skills in Java, R or Python
- Biostatistical knowledge
- Proficient in spoken and written English.
- Experience with various machine-learning techniques for analyzing proteomics, genomics and multi-omics datasets using feature selection and neural networks is a valuable asset.
- Experience analyzing large NGS datasets using GATK/Hail-based pipelines is a valuable plus
