OUR ROLE

TOMRA’s sensor-based solutions play a key role in optimizing resource productivity, particularly in the fields of waste management and recycling, where sensor-based technology can be used to increase precision and streamline processes.

To achieve the ambitious aim of a circular economy, it is necessary to employ state-of-the-art approaches that push boundaries, and TOMRA’s reverse vending and waste sorting solutions help to achieve this by recovering materials and providing valuable insight into the composition of these materials.

The result is a greater understanding of where efficiencies can be made to minimize costs and waste, and better utilize resources within a closed loop - further mitigating the impact of CO2 and other emissions and inefficiencies.

The Deep Learning Team builds the tooling to create deep learning models for TOMRA’s sensor-based sorting and analysis systems. This includes data organization and processing, as well as tools and infrastructure to train and deploy deep learning models, screening scientific deep learning improvements, and realization of improvements for industrial sorting systems. Other internal teams will use these tools to create deep learning models to solve real-world sorting problems.

We are looking for a working student to support the Deep Learning Team in building our Deep Learning Platform. This will include:

- Building and maintaining tooling to improve the Deep Learning Plattform
- Maintain and evolve the inference service used on our platform
- Prototype new services
- Support in maintenance and development of our infrastructure
- This is not a data science position

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Computer Science, or a related field
- Solid programming skills in Python and knowledge of Linux
- Proficiency in both written and spoken German and English is required.
- Good understanding of network infrastructure
- Proven track record of personal projects, GitHub repositories, certifications
- Good knowledge of containerization, especially Docker
- Knowledge of Kubernetes is a plus
- Familiarity with version control tools (Git, GitHub, or GitLab)
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and strong problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills for collaboration and reporting
