Chief of Staff, Head of Surety Strategy

Munich Re Specialty was formed as a stand-alone division in 2023, and brings together the wider Munich Re group’s primary specialty business units. Complementing an already strong presence in the UK and the US, Munich Re Specialty - Global Markets (MRSGM) has been tasked with executing a wider plan to build a broader European footprint.

The Chief of Staff, HoSS will assist the CUO Surety and the European Leadership Team (ELT) in various capacities. In particular, the establishment of MRSG Surety presence across several countries in continental Europe will be a key area of attention in 2025 and beyond.

Specifically, the Chief of Staff, HoSS supports the CUO Surety and the ELT in the preparation and tracking of the European strategy - preparing the strategic agenda for Surety ELT meetings and ensuring that all follow-up actions are executed and closed.

Furthermore, the role will lead various initiatives as assigned by the CUO Surety and when required serve as delegate for the CUO Surety in meetings. There will be a difference between the short-term and longer-term aspects of the role.

Short-term priority will be partnering with all Surety workstreams leads to build Surety end-to-end processes, development plans, as well as driving execution and building up a RI program.

Longer-term priority will be supporting CUO Surety in shaping and upholding the Surety-specific UW guidelines, strategy, value proposition, developing and maintaining a framework for Surety-specific performance, portfolio management.

**Responsibilities**:

- Be the CUO’s right-hand person, advisor and “shared brain”
- Assist in the development, presentation, and monitoring of MRSG Surety Europe’s short
- and long-term business strategies, priorities and KPIs.
- Assist the CUO and Surety Country Heads with stakeholder management across the wider Munich Re group, including Re, F&C and ERGO.
- Lead and participate in key strategic projects involving MRSG Europe.
- Draft agendas for the Surety ELT including offsites; list action items and track completion.
- In close collaboration with the Company Secretary, support the CUO Surety with board meetings related to MRSG Europe and Surety

Partnering with all Surety workstreams leads to build Surety end-to-end processes, development plans, as well as assisting/driving execution, specifically, this will involve:

- Monitor the project plan to support evolution, incl. goals, scope, and timeline
- Co-manage the project team and workstream leads and manage the budget
- Ensure collaboration across all relevant functions, map and involve relevant stakeholders; maintain clear and regular communication
- Ensure decisions are made timely, involving relevant decision makers
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to minimize disruptions of our Surety Go live dates for Surety in Europe
- Sitting in the driver seat to co-develop a new Surety pricing tool, Surety accumulation processes, Credit analysis process and outward RI-program
- Co-develop a Surety customer platform with the highest servicing standards to create a strong value proposition in the European market including the newest AI tools so that we will ensure a competitive advantage position in terms of technology

Knowledge and Skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit who isn’t afraid of getting their hands dirty with execution - this is critical as the build-out of continental Europe is in its infancy and every pair of “hands on deck” matters
- Works in a proactive and self-directed manner by identifying and executing activities that add value to MRSG Europe, its Leadership Team and the CUO Surety
- A structured thinker and problem-solver with a natural affinity for building storylines that audiences can understand and buy into
- Extensive years relevant industry experience
- Data experience, Re-Insurance, Portfolio Management, Underwriting Excellence and AI knowledge would be beneficial
- University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
- Surety market experience
- Excellent Oral skills in English with addition of 1-2 European Languages.
