The position holder is responsible for managing purchasing transactions with external and internal suppliers to support the efficient procurement of direct materials or sub-contract services. This position requires strong attention to detail and rigor to ensure effective management of direct material requirements.
Buyers operate as part of the Customer Operations Procurement Team. Responsible for ensuring transactional efficiency of goods and subcontract services for the business in a defined scope of support from internal and external suppliers, in line with Smiths Group PLC Code of Conduct and John Crane P2P policy, ensuring that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Purchase Order Management: Create, modify, update, and oversee the entire lifecycle of Purchase Orders (POs) from requisition to delivery, covering both direct materials and relevant subcontract services.
- Defective Item Returns: Efficiently handle the return of defective items to suppliers, along with the associated tasks of managing Return Purchase Orders (POs).
- Invoice Resolution: Proactively address and resolve invoice holds.
- Process Automation: Spearhead efforts to automate purchase transactions using the SAP system, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
- Supplier Sourcing: Conduct basic Request for Quotation (RFQ) processes as needed to identify suitable suppliers and competitive pricing for specific requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate collaborative relationships with internal customers, suppliers, and global team members to facilitate effective procurement operations.
- Order Monitoring: Continuously monitor all orders and assume responsibility for ensuring timely and reliable delivery.
- Supplier Selection: Identify and select appropriate suppliers based on requirements and quality standards.
- End-to-End Procure-to-Pay (P2P) Ownership: Oversee the complete P2P process to streamline procurement activities.

The Individual
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in direct material procurement (not services).
- An advantage would be the ability to interpret technical documentation related to the procurement of goods.
- Experience in both internal and external purchasing processes.
- Experience working with data and metrics, along with understanding of standard work practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, and prior experience with SAP/MM modules is highly desirable.
- A valid driver's license is required as occasional customer visits may be necessary.
- Proficient written and spoken English is a necessary requirement.
- Our work environment includes smart working, with 2 days of home office and 3 days in our office.
