The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive, and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation.

Student Assistant (M/F/x)
for 40-60 hours per month

to work under the supervision of Dr. Örjan de Manzano on a project that uses behavioral and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG) to investigate musical improvisation and neural mechanisms in creativity. This position is an opportunity for the assistant to gain hands-on experience in conducting neuroscientific research in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment. We are therefore seeking a highly interested and self-motivated individual to assist with the project.

**Your tasks**:

- assist with data collection (e.g., for behavioral experiments as well as eye tracking, fMRI, EEG, etc.);
- recruit research study participants (e.g., contacting potential participants, distributing flyers, etc.);
- create stimuli for experiments;
- data preprocessing and analysis (including some writing/modifying scripts, mostly in Python);
- write literature reviews and summaries;
- organize scientific literature.

**Our requirements**:

- an interest in neuroscience and a motivation to learn;
- fluency in German and good command of English;
- current enrollment as an MSc student, preferably in Neuroscience, Psychology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (exceptionally well-qualified Bachelor students may also be considered);
- some experience with Python programming, other languages (e.g., MATLAB, or R) are a bonus;
- strong organizational and communication skills, capacity to work well as part of a team;
- proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, etc.;
- familiarity with eye tracking, EEG, and fMRI data collection helpful but not required;
- able to work safely in an MR environment (e.g., no ferromagnetic body implants).
