Solutions Architect

**Purpose of Position**:
The Solution Architect holds a pivotal role within the Product Development department, providing expertise and experience to ensure our cross functional agile engineering teams deliver with confidence. You will have a holistic understanding of our platform, be involved in designing and delivering new solutions, and be the go-to person for architectural input as we maintain and extend our award-winning affiliate marketing platform.

The Solution Architect sits across our engineering teams, designing solutions for complex projects. You will work directly with our Product Managers and stakeholders to review feature proposals, and with our engineering teams on technical debt and legacy replacements. You will communicate your designs through documents that rely on diagrams for clarity and be able to talk with confidence to our highly skilled engineers. You will connect the Product Development department with the Systems & Architecture team and ensure your solution designs align with their wider architectural principles. At times, you might get involved in the actual hands-on delivery of a project or a review of a completed project.

**Key Tasks**:

- Planning of initiatives, scoping and design of technical projects in cooperation with the affected teams
- Document designs at different levels, including information flow and component diagrams, deployment and infrastructure plans, and Jira epics outlining high-level delivery
- Liaise with stakeholders of all levels Lead standardisation efforts across our engineering teams incl. setting and executing strategic engineering direction, ensuring engineering excellence
- Lead or actively contribute to cross-cutting projects and initiatives
- Provide guidance and governance to our engineers, enable teams and individuals to grow
- Help maintain backlogs containing our technical debt and future enhancements
- Work with Product Managers to ensure a smooth pipeline for our engineering teams
- Participate in hands on coding (if time permits)

**Skills & Expertise**:

- Minimum of 8 years' experience in an Engineering department, ideally as a developer
- Proven track record of designing and documenting solutions to complex problems, with expertise in rich architectural diagram tools (Lucidchart, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Diagrams.net, Visio)
- Ability to present your solutions to groups of people with a range of technical expertise in an engaging and clear way
- Proven track record of delivery in multi-team environments
- Comfortable designing solutions for AWS and cloud-first (Docker, Lambda, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and related serverless technologies)
- A desire to constantly refactor and improve, which applies as much to you as the systems under your responsibility
- An expert understanding of design principles & patterns (including SOLID, OOP & BDD)
- Be pragmatic; know how to balance the best solution against a working solution
- Commercial development experience with either Java, PHP or Angular
- An expert understanding of distributed services and microservice architecture
- Expert knowledge of non-relational databases (e.g. MongoDB) & in-memory search tools (e.g. ElasticSearch)
- Expert knowledge of streaming and queueing solutions (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, Kinesis)
- Display a history of creativity, innovative thought, awareness of current technical trends and high levels of motivation

Although not required, we would be excited if you had experience with some of the below:

- At least exposure to CI/CD pipelines, ideally setup and configuration experience
- Working on subscription or high-volume transactional systems
- Leading agile ceremonies
