Job Title:
Advanced Scientist (m/w/d) R&D Coatings

Summary:
The Advanced Scientist (m/w/d) R&D Coatings is responsible for the development of functional coatings based on various cure chemistries (thermal and UV) with focus on creating new coating properties, the improvement of coating performance and coating applicability.

Responsibilities Include:

- Development of new or improved thermally curable sol-gel coatings with the aim to achieve a long-time weatherability performance and abrasion resistance.
- Independently executes with occasional guidance multiple projects aligned with the business needs and the segment strategy from the product concept to the commercialization stage.
- Integrates seamlessly into the global Technology organizational structure, including collaborates in global cross-functional internal (Marketing, Commercial and Corporate) and external teams.
- Maintains technical reporting and documentation tasks, e.g. lab journals.
- Guides an experienced team of technicians through providing technical support and creates for the laboratory team a productive safe work environment. Adheres to Site safety policies and procedures independently. Able to identify and report unsafe work practices.
- Independently communicates projects results as oral presentations or written contributions (summary/technical reports) to a functional global internal audience and various organizational functions, e.g. the Business Leadership.
- Executes literature reviews, IP landscape searches, patentability assessments and freedom-to-practice evaluations of new technology concepts and developments.
- Supports creating product promotion contents for customer visits, trade shows and fairs, industry conferences as well as associations and for industry journal publications.
- Provides professional regional customer support on developed products, including travel to customer sites as needed.

Qualifications:
The following are _required _for the role- University degree (Master) in Chemistry (polymer, inorganic or organic chemistry)- 3+ years of practical experience in the coatings industry in an R&D or product development role- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a global cross-functional team environment with strong customer focus.- Demonstrates strong team spirit as well as social and intercultural competency.- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and basic German skills.- Experience with supervision of laboratory technicians.- Very good knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).- Willingness to travel occasionally

Preferred Qualifications:

- PhD in Chemistry with a focus on chemical synthesis, additive synthesis, coating formulation development, surface properties modification, and surface analysis with first work experience in the industry
- Knowledge or experience in sol-gel chemistries.
- Experienced in organic synthesis.
- Knowledge in the characterization of coatings and surface properties.
- Knowledge in the accelerated weathering of coatings.
