Tasks We are searching for a research scientist (M/F/diverse) to join our artificial intelligence (AI) team in Berlin. As part of the central pre-development department, our goal is to develop and enable the use of AI in future Continental products. You will work in an innovative team of specialists and students with the goal of a Ph.D. Applications incorporating artificial intelligence find their way into more and more different areas of human’s lifes. Considering the professional world, often there are humans confronted with this technology who haven’t yet worked with any software support and may show certain skepticism regarding AI systems. However, considering processes in the automotive domain, effective collaboration between an AI system and a human employee will be one of the most beneficial scenarios for efficiency increase. For this reason, it is essential to develop an AI system in a way that on one hand the system can benefit from existing knowledge of a human domain expert and on the other hand it is able to present its decisions in a comprehensible way. **Details**: Parameterization and calibration tasks are often performed with very strict requirements on time and resources, sometimes paired with a restricted access to prototype vehicles at customer sites. The manual effort for these tasks under such conditions is increasingly difficult to afford. Therefore, an assisting AI should optimize the processes for these use cases and support the domain experts in their selection of suitable solutions. Further, the identification of potential problems in the process should be supported by the AI system. There are different relevant research questions in scope of the thesis: How to involve the human domain expert in the AI development process ("Human in the Loop ML")? Which methods can cope with the requirements from the underlying parameterization use case, mainly considering runtime and robustness? This topic will be elaborated in scope of a German publicly funded project.
