Media Relations and Communications Specialist

The Strategy, Communication and International Relations (SCIR) Division is responsible for maintaining crucial relations with EUMETSAT member states, international partners and agencies and ensuring communication efforts, internally and to the outside world, are aligned with the organisation’s strategy.

Reporting to the Editorial and Design Manager, you will be in charge of developing and implementing plans to raise awareness about EUMETSAT in the national media in all member states, in alignment with the organisation’s communication roadmaps and plans. The position will also provide support for the drafting and production of corporate documents as well as content for the EUMETSAT website.

**What you’ll be doing**
- Under guidance of the Head of Communication, develop media relations plans to raise the profile of EUMETSAT in the media at a European level and within the organisation’s member states;
- Establish and maintain a network of generalist and science journalists, at a European level, with an interest to report on topics related to EUMETSAT’s activities;
- Plan, develop, draft and distribute relevant material to inform generalist and science media at a European and global level about EUMETSAT’s news and milestones;
- Plan, coordinate and run media events at EUMETSAT’s or partner’s premises, based on agreed priorities and in cooperation with the national weather services from EUMETSAT member states;
- Plan, develop and draft corporate documents such as the annual report or corporate brochures, as well as, features and news for the EUMETSAT website;
- Network within EUMETSAT, and with partners, to identify relevant news and milestones of news value to increase awareness about the activities of the organisation;
- Defines and maintains relevant media visibility and relations KPIs.

**Requirements**:
**Qualifications**

Full secondary education with professional qualifications in journalism and/or communication, or equivalent professional experience.

**Skills and Experience**
- Several year of proven experience working in a similar media relations and communications role, with experience in the space, high-tech or scientific sectors being an additional asset;
- Good understanding of what has news value for national media, with a focus on scientific and technical matters;
- Excellent proven drafting skills, both for media material and for corporate material with the ability to convey complex scientific and/or technical information to non-expert audiences in a compelling and attractive way;
- Good understanding of the European media landscape, including influential groups and associations of media and journalists together with knowledge of the main platforms to distribute content and information to national media in Europe;
- Capacity to network effectively and to travel occasionally to relevant events/conferences;
- Ability to plan and organise effective media events, both at EUMETSAT’s and at partners’ premises;
- Ability to translate high-level communication plans into applicable plans to raise the profile of EUMETSAT towards the media;
- Understanding of the collaborative nature of EUMETSAT’s mission and how to translate this aspect into communication activities;
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills applicable to both internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy as well as excellent ability to work within a team.

**Languages**

Considering interactions with local government and media, a professional level of spoken and written German will be considered a strong advantage.
