Part-time position with 65 % of the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is limited until until Sep 30, 2029 within the project “FOR5903” according to -2 Abs. 2 WissZeitVG. The option of graduation is given.

**FOR5309** is a DFG Research Unit with a wide interdisciplinary and international scope, covering diverse dimensions of global urbanisation processes under the novel framework of “Sustainable Rurbanity”. In the context of this project, a doctoral position is available addressing “Synergies and trade-offs of soil functions in rurban spaces”. The position cannot be shared. The main place of employment is Witzenhausen, but extended fieldwork in Morocco for several months per year will be required. The willingness and fitness to work under warm continental climate conditions is therefore mandatory

**Tasks**:

- Research and compilation of soil data to derive soil functions in Morocco.
- Soil sampling in Morocco and collaboration in the preparation of an interview questionnaire to farmers.
- Soil analyses for the derivation of soil functions of tree-based agricultural land in Morocco
- UAV-based image data collection on agricultural fields in Morocco
- Statistical analysis of the collected data and input of the soil data into the project database
- Working in partnership with project partners to develop collaborative research outputs
- Participation in project-related seminars and workshops as well as international conferences by presenting own results

**Requirements**:
Mandatory
- Completed university degree (MSc or diploma equivalent to 180 ECTS) in Agriculture, Geoecology, Environmental Sciences or related fields
- Experience with field research and evaluation of complex data
- Experience in collecting soil data and proficiency in analyzing data using statistical methods (e.g., R, SAS).
- Fluency in English language
- Ability and willingness to work in a dedicated team with an international and intercultural background in Morocco and Germany

- Experience with experimental design and evaluation of complex data (e.g. multispectral data)
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, scientifically rigorous results
