The ICCT seeks a highly motivated and committed Associate Researcher for the Aviation Program in Berlin, Germany. This position will support research to identify, refine, and promote policies to reduce the environmental impacts of commercial aviation. The focus of the position will be on European policy work and developing measures to quantify and control the non-CO2 impacts of aviation. Additional work will focus on the development of national-level decarbonization strategies and communication channels to analyze and implement relevant policies.

You Will:

- Model greenhouse gas, air pollution, and radiative forcing from aircraft and fuels in Europe and globally
- Analyze policy options to reduce the CO2 and non-CO2 impacts of aviation emissions in Europe and globally, including aircraft engine and fuel quality standards and contrail avoidance maneuvers
- Research and support measures to control airport air pollution and public health impacts in Europe
- Author or co-author ICCT publications and internal memos
- Synthesize technical information into policy-relevant documents and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Engage with external stakeholders including government officials, NGOs, academics, and other industries to build trust and partnerships
- Other duties as assigned

You Have:

- A Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) in aerospace engineering, atmospheric science, transportation, environment, fuel chemistry, or a related field
- Excellent quantitative, analytical, and research skills combined with strategic problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills are required
- Scientific computing and modeling experience along with the ability to manage, analyze, and visualize large datasets, especially in Python, R, and/or Matlab
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint
- An understanding of aviation transportation systems and policies is preferred
- A background in policy impact analysis (economic impact, or climate impact), aircraft engine modeling, or fuel chemistry is preferred
- Experience working with policymakers, NGOs, industries, and other stakeholders is a plus
