This is a full-time position. The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L). The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L. **Unser Profil**: **Ihr Profil**: You have completed a university degree (master's or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and automation engineering or computer science with a focus on control engineering and achieved very good results. You have a strong foundation in the field of control and automation engineering and are eager to further develop your knowledge in this area. Being involved in projects and teaching activities is an attractive challenge for you. Ideally, you have already gained programming experience in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C++ or similar in a control engineering context. Technical experience with GNSS-based localization or perception is desirable but not mandatory. You are able to develop novel solutions for challenging technical problems in a team and you speak fluent German or English. **Ihre Aufgaben**: The endeavor to achieve green mobility is causing a transition in the maritime sector. One step towards reducing greenhouse gases is the automation of ships. This is where the GALILEOnautic 2+ research project comes in. Within the scope of the project, the networked and cooperative maneuvering of autonomous ships in safety-critical and particularly challenging areas such as ports is being researched. To this end, three research vessels in the project including a federal research vessel, the Deneb, will be equipped with sensors for 360° environmental perception and sensors for state estimation. At the Institute of Automatic Control, you will be part of the "Navigation" group and will be responsible for developing the algorithms for environmental perception and robust navigation within the project. You will test and validate your algorithms directly with the test vessels in the Rostock harbor. Regarding the methodology, you will be able to set your own personal priorities based on existing approaches. In doing so, you will be supported at IRT by scientists with many years of experience in navigation projects and with diverse methodological expertise. You will share your scientific results with the community at international conferences and in scientific journals.
