Practical Nurse

**Duties**: - Perform direct patient care and referral management activities. - Assist with administrative and clerical tasks at health clinic when necessary. - Instruct patients and/or family members in self-care procedures in regard to various prescribed treatments. - Assist physicians with basic examinations and diagnostic procedures. - Monitor basic vital signs and document any pertinent information in patient health record. **Requirements**: **Conditions of Employment**: - You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. - Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. - One year trial/probationary period may be required. - Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction 1315.19. - A Personnel Security Investigation is required - This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. - Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. - All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). - A pre-placement medical examination is required. - Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. - This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 pounds in the regular performance of duties. - This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 5% of the time away from your permanent duty station. - The Practical Nurse occupation requires a current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia, or you must have applied for a license to practice. - Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. **Qualifications**: **Who May Apply: US Citizens** Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse- In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below: - Specialized Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as maintaining medical records, assisting professional medical providers with clinical evaluations and procedures, and discussing medical care coordination with patients or family members at a patient care facility. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). - Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted. - In accordance with the Secretary of Defense policy change for Department of Defense childcare priorities, care for children of civilians will be extremely limited.
