The impact you will make
As the Team Lead Accounting at one of the world’s leading fusion companies, you will be pivotal in powering the financial foundation that accelerates the future of clean energy. By leading and inspiring the accounting team, you’ll ensure financial integrity and compliance, driving the seamless flow of critical financial operations, including ensuring compliance with local GAAP, and managing audits. You'll streamline financial operations, generate financial statements, and enhance the closing process. Collaborating across departments, you'll innovate and maintain accounting standards with a digital-first approach, positioning the company for scalable growth and making fusion energy a reality.
**More specifically, you will**:
Lead and mentor the accounting team, aligning efforts with departmental goals and fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture
Act as the primary contact for auditors and tax advisors, ensuring compliance with local GAAP (in Germany and the US) and effectively managing all audit processes
Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payables, receivables, travel expenses, assets, and payment runs, maintaining financial integrity
Prepare and generate (consolidated) financial statements for closing periods, including the annual report, management commentary, and segment reporting
Continuously improve the financial closing process and manage the closing calendar, including overseeing and optimizing intercompany relationships
Ensure compliance with internal controls across key processes such as Purchase to Pay (P2P) and Hire to Retire (H2R), safeguarding operational efficiency
Own and manage accounting systems and standards, with a strong focus on automating and digitizing existing processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Drive operational excellence by collaborating closely with Financial Planning & Analysis (“FP&A”), Procurement, People, and Legal teams to streamline processes and achieve shared objectives
What you bring
Experience
7+ years of professional accounting experience in an audit firm and/or in establishing and managing accounting functions within a startup environment
Proven expertise in tax matters, including preparing and reviewing tax returns, ensuring accurate tax filings, and a comprehensive understanding of German tax law
Proven leadership and communication skills, with a track record of building, scaling, and managing high-performing teams
Experience in developing, refining (particularly digitizing), and communicating processes to continuously enhance efficiency and accuracy
Preferable experience with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Business Central, along with familiarity with DATEV and Lucanet
Knowledge of SOX compliance and SEC reporting requirements is an added advantage
Education
University degree in business administration
Preferably you are a qualified accountant (e.g. CPA, ACCA, WP)
Very good German and English language skills, experience in an international business environment
