The research group led by Prof. Dr Alexey Amunts at the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a
Postdoctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in, salary level E 13 TV-L, 100 %)
for an externally funded project “Protein synthesis in organelles - Orgasome” at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term full-time position until 30 September 2026.
**About Us**:
Alexey Amunts’ group investigates the fundamental question of how proteins are synthesized, folded and assembled into functional multicomponent bioenergetic complexes that drive the cellular energy production. The lab members determined structures and mechanisms of some of the most complex multi protein assemblies driving key bioenergetic processes, including chlororibosomes, mitoribosomes, photosystems and ATP synthases. It has illuminated how different cells obtain their energy, maintain the bioenergetic balance and shape their bioenergetic membranes. From the evolutionary perspective, the achieved understanding of the diversity of these systems provides now a framework to study the mechanisms underlying their development. The lab is funded by the ERC and the EMBO Young Investigators programs that allow the group members to enhance the efficiency of the scientific research and networking.
**Your tasks**:

- Conduct innovative research in structural biology, leveraging cryo-EM to study bioenergetic systems.
- Design and lead projects on mitochondrial/chloroplast pathways or related topics.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to high-impact publications.
- Present findings at international conferences and engage in scientific networking.

**Our expectations**:

- A PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Expertise in cryo-EM data collection/processing and protein biochemistry.
- Experience with large molecular complexes and/or bioinformatics.
- Strong communication skills, teamwork, and a passion for independent research.
- Fluency in English.
