Director of Engineering

We are looking for a** Director of Engineering (all genders) **to lead the development of our global** Consumer Data Platform. **You will own the planning, design, development, and operation of the platform, and you will ensure high-quality delivery through your direct involvement and through the engineering managers reporting to you.

**The Platform**:
The Consumer Data Platform enables Delivery Hero’s brands to access important customer information in real-time and build a delightful customer experience on top.

This customer data ranges from simple historical aggregates to complex attitudinal or behavioral inferences. At its core, it performs stateful computation over streams of customer data.

The platform ingests data from multiple sources such as event buses and external services, performs live and batch computation and predictions, and serves it to our stakeholders’ use cases in live (REST API), stream, and batch modes.

It is positioned as a global service, meaning that your work will reach and impact consumers in 70+ countries.

**Your mission**:

- You will take on the mission of the architecture for this platform and execute its development. To be successful, you will design and build out the Engineering organization to meet these demands. Specifically:

- You translate the requirements collected together with your product managers into architectural decisions. The main building blocks of the platform will cover ingest, compute, prediction, and serving. All these components need to be highly scalable, resilient, and extensible by stakeholder teams.
- Your architecture allows the computation and live serving of algorithmically intensive data products that operate on streaming data.
- You build an Engineering organization that executes this architecture into a globally scalable and extensible platform serving use cases in 50+ countries. This organization lives up to Delivery Hero’s high expectations towards delivering and operating global platforms.
- You fully own the technical roadmap and the strategic technology choices. Because this platform is a critical global service, you maintain a technical vision that spans multiple years.
- You are responsible for building out systems and practices that ensure the functional excellence and the career development of the engineers your entire organization. This includes nurturing a culture of psychological safety and career development practices in which engineers' roles have clear growth trajectories.

**Your heroic skills**:

- 7+ years of experience including 3+ years of engineering management building and running multiple teams.
- Very experienced in architecting, building, and operating large, complex, data-driven platforms, ideally in the context of customer/consumer data.
- Experience building resilient and fault-tolerant high throughput APIs.
- Very experienced in cloud computing and cloud architectures, including scalable datastores (search systems, NoSQL stores, columnar databases, etc), streaming data processing (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub, dataflow/pipeline systems, etc), microservice architectures, and the associated practices such as containerization, infrastructure automation, and automated control planes.
- Confident in running large Engineering organizations that deliver great results in a sustainable manner. This includes experience in implementing best practices for engineering and ensuring a stimulating and fair work environment that offers growth opportunities.
