Government Relations Advisor

You will play a part in representing Shell’s interests to the government, parliament, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders that influence Shell’s license to operate.

**What’s the role?**

The Government Relations Advisor will be accountable for the following:

- Understands political and international relations drivers affecting Shell in Germany, in particular the ‘energy transition’ and its impacts on existing and future value chains in Germany.
- Identifies, manages, communicates, and escalates key risks and opportunities for Shell’s success and license to operate.
- Develops and delivers coherent Policy & Advocacy (P&A) strategies in support of business priorities.

You will also be responsible for the following:

- Develops stakeholder maps and engagement strategies in support of business strategies.
- Cultivates trusted relationships with external stakeholders and provides adequate Shell representation in external meetings and conferences.
- Engages in policy and regulatory development, building understanding between business and regulatory officials, politicians, and other stakeholders, with the aim of advocating policies in support of the business and flagging political risks/opportunities to the business.
- Ensures/coordinates alignment and involvement of colleagues from various parts of Shell businesses and functions in the management of issues and opportunities related to transport policy. You will also be expected to work closely with e.g., the P&A office in Brussels to understand and influence EU Directives and policies.
- Provides advice to the businesses on Corporate Relations (CR) advocacy strategy as well as on positions of the government, political parties and industry associations or other relevant organisations.
- Prepares and advises the Country Chair and other senior leaders about their external engagements with government representatives and industry bodies.
- Possesses and leverages politically impactful stakeholder networks.
- Represents Shell externally to defend value and develop new opportunities.

- Geographical area of work is Germany, with a strong link to e.g., EU affairs.
- Stakeholder landscape covers political, governmental organizations and industry bodies.
- The formal reporting line will be into the CR function.
- Complex and dynamic environment with external and internal challenges.

**What we need from you?**

The successful applicant has a keen interest in German and European politics as well as Shell’s activities.

You will also have significant experience in governmental, public affairs, regulatory affairs, or legal affairs. Also, a good understanding of German and European governmental institutions and frameworks including legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Broad understanding of energy policy in Germany
- Experience of working with businesses representatives to help tackle their challenges
- Ability to communicate technical issues in an appropriate way to government stakeholders
- Because of the nature of work, we would be needing someone with strong written and verbal communication skills in both German and English wherein they are able to find the right tone in different settings.
- Ability to build and cultivate trusted stakeholder relationships with relevant members in the public policy/government community
- Ability to deliver through others
- Broad interest, but eye for detail
- Ability to analyse a lot of information in a short time span and identify the relevant components
