High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a standard method in the quantitative analysis of samples from bioprocesses. In the Jülich Biofroundry at the Institute of Bio

**Your Job**:
The focus of the thesis project is the programming of an automation workflow that communicates with the API of the HPLC system and controls gripper robots to load and unload samples to/from the HPLC's autosampler. After establishing loading, unloading and interaction with the HPLCs injection sequence planning and data-management, the analysis workflow shall be integrated with existing automation workflows that provide samples and run data analysis.

Specifically, the tasks include
- Programming of gripper robot movements
- Conceptualization and implementation of a Python library for high-level control of the HPLC via its control software’s HTTP REST interface
- Definition of input/output interfaces for receiving and performing measurement tasks
- Testing and reliability validation of key steps in the workflow
- Optionally data analysis of HPLC peaks using an in-house developed Python library for parametric peak modeling with uncertainty quantification

**Your Profile**:
Required skills
- Ongoing master studies in computer science, chemistry, biotechnology, scientific computing or related fields
- High motivation for self-didactic tinkering with robots, software interfaces and high-level programming languages
- Prior experience with git and high-level programming languages such as Python or C#
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Independent and responsible work attitude
Fluent English skills

Further qualifications that are a plus:

- Prior experience in software architecture, databases, lab automation or parameter estimation
- Fluent German skills

**Our Offer**:
We work on highly innovative laboratory automation and offer you to participate in the development of technologies that accelerate the transition to a sustainable bioeconomy.

We offer you:

- Hands-on training with newly established laboratory automation equipment
- Collaborative teamwork with agile/scrum techniques
- A motivating work environment with highly motivated young scientists
- Ideal circumstances to develop skills in software development
Qualified supervision by experienced automation experts
- Cover letter (including your motivation and a short summary of relevant prior software development experiences)
- CV
- Bachelors transcript of records
- Masters transcript of records
Any other certificates you may have and think could be useful
