To achieve DENSO’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2035, Aachen Engineering Center’s Vehicle Energy Management (VEM) team has developed an international, cross-divisional group dedicated to Green mobility products and efficient energy use. Our team process is to identify vehicle systems that can benefit from Smart Control and evaluate these innovative improvements in real world testing. We have installed advanced components on a prototype vehicle to demonstrate the benefits of DENSO hardware and Smart Control. To explore the limitations of Smart Control, more advanced AI-based algorithms like neural networks and optimisers must be implemented without exceeding the computational capacity of the Rapid Prototyping System. To safely evaluate controls, we first use a Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) setup in Simulink, and then implement in a real-time environment to evaluate control performance in different use cases.

**Job Description**:
**Purpose**:
To quantify the effects of using advanced optimization algorithms on computational load and system benefit, first in simulation and later validating on-vehicle.

**Project Targets**:

- Digital Engineering activities:

- Simulation: Upgrade environment for system evaluation with advanced algorithms that allows the variation of neural network hyperparameters and on-line optimizer parameters.
- AI Methods: Upgrade the algorithms towards reduction of calculation load for safe operation on the Demo vehicle.
- Analytics: Quantify trade-off between calculation load versus system / vehicle benefits
- Vehicle Integration activities:

- RPS: Implement the developed algorithms on a Rapid Prototyping System.
- Validation: correlate most promising scenarios based on measurements

**Qualifications**:

- You study in an engineering-related program (e.g. electrical engineering, mechatronics, vehicle engineering) and have interest in the automotive industry,
- You are a team player that likes to take on tasks and responsibilities proactively,
- You have fluent skills in written and spoken English to communicate with internal and external stakeholders,
- You are proficient with Mathworks MATLAB and Simulink to view and modify scripts and simulations,
- You are interested in working with physical hardware for developing demonstration prototypes,
- Ideally, you have basic skills in Python and possess basic knowledge of data engineering.
