Technician in Protozoan Diversity

The position will join and support a larger project addressing fundamental questions in eco-evolutionary dynamics using freshwater ciliates as an experimental model system and contribute to a diverse set of tasks including field sampling focusing on protozoan diversity, identification of ciliates and conducting experiments. We provide an attractive work environment in an international team, with many opportunities for exciting field work and excellent equipment.
**Your tasks**:
- Maintain a large collection of ciliate cultures and set up new cultures
- Contribute to experiments and conduct independent experiments with ciliates
- Identify ciliates to species level from freshwater pond samples
- Sample freshwater ponds
- Prepare field samples for DNA sequencing to assess protozoan and ciliate diversity in urban ponds
- Perform first steps of library preparation for DNA sequencing
- Set up reference genomes of lab cultures and dominant field species
- Organize and take care of the lab environment
**Your profile**:
- Completed training as a biological, chemical or medical-technical assistant (BTA/CTA/MTA) or a comparable qualification
- Experience with sequencing approaches
- Experience with taxonomic identification of protozoan preferred
- Experience with culturing of micro-organisms (such as plankton or protozoan) preferred
- Experience with field sampling of plankton and protozoan preferred
- Attention to detail
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Great communication skills
- The working language of the group is English, suitable reading, writing and speaking skills are required

Salary is paid according to the German salary scheme for the public sector (E9a; TVöD Bund). It is a full-time position with 39h working hours per week. The position is limited to 2 years. Subsequent further employment is not possible.
