**Duties**:
Serves in a position equal to that of an entry-level first or second tour Political officer. Drafts classified analytic reporting on all aspects of German foreign and security policy, focusing on their impact on U.S. interests as well as advocacy for U.S. positions. Establishes and maintains contact with the German government, Parliamentarians and the foreign policy establishment (academia, institutes, press, etc.) Assists in arranging appointments for visiting officials, accompanying them and documenting their visits. Works independently on his/her own initiative, coordinates reporting, and analysis with other political section colleagues and counterparts in other parts of the Embassy including Econ and Public Affairs section. S/he reports directly to the Political-Military Unit Chief and is reviewed by the Deputy Political Section Chief.

**EXPERIENCE**: Three years of general experience in one of the following fields is required: social science, politics, international relations, political, cultural, and social or human rights fields.
- Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Political Science, History, International Relations, Journalism or equivalent is required.

**LANGUAGE**:Position requires fluent language skills in English (speaking/reading/writing).

- IMPORTANT: Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
