At the institute for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy - Catalytic Interfaces for Chemical Hydrogen Storage (INW-1), Director Hans-Georg Steinrück, we investigate fundamental mechanisms and processes of chemical hydrogen storage at solidliquid interfaces (i.e. catalyst-molecule) using advanced analytic methodologies (including large-scale research facilities). The current project deals with establishment operando spectroscopic methodologies (i.e. FT-IR, Raman, or X-Ray) to monitor dynamic interaction between hydrogen storage molecules and electrified catalyst surfaces for chemical hydrogen storage process.

**Your Job**:

- Establishment of operando spectroscopy equipment for chemical hydrogen storage process experiment
- Design of operando reactors for high-temperature electrochemistry coupled with mass spectrometry
- Systematic preparation of surface-enhanced thin-film model surface for interface-specific data collection
- Spectroscopic data collection and analysis for catalytic mechanism
- Exploration of various chemical environment effects (e.g. charged catalytic surface) for chemical hydrogen storage process
- Participation in synchrotron beamtimes
- Publication and presentation of results in high-ranking and recognized journals and at national and international conferences
- Collaboration with other research groups
- Supervision of undergraduate students
- Support in the preparation of third-party funding proposals
- Support in establishing the institute

**Your Profile**:

- Master's degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related disciplines
- Fundamental knowledge in catalytic interface analysis and spectroscopy
- Experience in the fields of operando spectroscopy, operando cell design, catalysis, or chemical hydrogen storage
- Experience with programming languages (ideally Python)
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Very independent and self-motivated way of working but also excellent teamwork skills
- High motivation to take on responsibility and develop own research idea

**Our Offer**:
We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the chance to actively help in shaping the change We offer ideal conditions for you to complete your doctoral degree:

- A highly motivated working group as well as an international and interdisciplinary working environment at one of Europe’s largest research establishments
- Outstanding scientific and technical infrastructure
- Opportunity to participate in (international) conferences and project meetings
- Continuous scientific mentoring by your scientific advisor
- Flexible work (location) arrangements, e.g. remote work
- 30 days of annual leave (depending on agreed working time arrangements) and provision for days off between public holidays and weekends (e.g. between Christmas and New Year)
