Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) extends the existing Ethernet standard for the reliable transmission of real-time data in existing network architectures. This is particularly important in industrial networks to eliminate the physical separation of real-time data and ordinary data. The enhancements primarily affect Layer 2 and require special hardware and firmware. The business unit Data Communication & Computing (DCC) develops the TSN Ethernet systems at Fraunhofer IPMS.

Within the context of this work, the focus is to be on the lookup module of a switch architecture. For this purpose, concepts are to be developed and implemented that specifically meet the requirements of a TSN transmission. This includes determinism, latency and throughput, but also scalability and functionality.

**What you will do**
- Familiarization with TSN Ethernet and lookup architectures
- Elaboration and comparison of several concepts
- Development and simulation of the selected concept
- Implementation in hardware
- Final characterization based on resource consumption and performance

**What you bring to the table**
- Studies in the field of electrical engineering, communications engineering, computer science or a comparable discipline
- Knowledge of digital systems and Verilog
- Curiosity and interest in the field of TSM
- Motivation to work independently on the tasks
- Commitment and enthusiasm for working in a team

The scientific work will be carried out in the business unit **Digital IP (DIP)** at Fraunhofer IPMS in Dresden. The examination performance takes place via the connection to a German university of applied sciences/university and is governed by the respective state university law.

The weekly working time is to be agreed individually. The position is limited for the time of the scientific work. The duration is flexible according to agreement and possible study guidelines.
