We offer a PhD position in the interdisciplinary DFG-funded project "Bio-inspired multizonal protein scaffolds as novel cartilage model system". Due to increasing life expectancy, many patients in our ageing population suffer from cartilage defects. This requires new strategies in cartilage tissue engineering. Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop multizonal protein scaffolds from collagen and fibrinogen nanofibers and to combine them with polysaccharide hydrogels to support chondrogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. YOUR Tasks - Fabrication of nanofibrous protein scaffolds by self-assembly and analysis of the scaffold topography with scanning electron microscopy - Mechanical characterisation of the composite scaffolds and characterisation of the swelling behavior - Spectroscopic analysis of the protein conformation.
