We are looking for a Space Weather Engineer to support our team based in Darmstadt, Germany.

**Tasks and Activities**:
The scope of work will include:

- Support for the preparation and execution of all procurements defined in the ESA Procurement Plan for entrusted SSA activities.
- Testing, verifying and validating the deliverables from the industrial activities related to the tasks entrusted to ESA by EC.
- Reviewing the monthly reporting by industry and report any non-conformances.
- Preparing corrective actions for the non-conformances and monitoring the implementation of corrective actions by industry.
- Performing the testing and validation of the deliverables after the implementation of corrections by industry.
- Providing a monthly progress report of the progress of the activity.
- Interfacing with the ESA space weather and data system teams where needed, regarding document, hardware and software deliveries, validation and testing.
- Support interfacing with industry where needed regarding regular KPI monitoring, pre-operational and operational activities.
- Performing any other tasks that are needed to consolidate the deliverables from the activity.
- Interfacing with the ESA Data Systems and ICT groups where this intersects the development, deployment, testing and acceptance of SW-related IT infrastructure and software, enabling consistent working level communication on pre-operational issues between Office activities and ESA DS/ICT where needed.
- Interfacing with the SW Payload Data Centre deployment team as needed.
- Supporting the organization of SWE Network Workshops and Network Review and participating as an expert member for all aspect related to transitioning mature service elements to operational framework.
- Supporting reviews of SWE Service Development Roadmaps.
- Providing support for the organization of SWE related education, outreach and user needs discussion events for the end users, as necessary.
- Providing expert support to the assessment of the operational SWE system architectural design.
- Supporting the assessment of SWE data models in the frameworks of all entrusted SWE service development activities.
- Providing expert support to the definition of space weather related international standards, as necessary.
- Providing a consolidated monthly progress report of the progress of all activities undertaken within frame of the service team WPs.

**Skills and Experience**:
The following skills and experience are mandatory:

- PhD or equivalent academic degree in space physics, space weather or solar physics, heliospheric physics, ionospheric physics, geomagnetism or spaceflight engineering.
- Minimum of five years of working experience with space weather related topics covering each of the following domains: solar weather, heliospheric weather, space radiation, ionospheric weather, geomagnetic conditions, experience in the development of space weather related instruments, hands-on experience in spaceflight hardware, experience in the simulation and analysis of instrument performance.
- Practical experience in developing space weather data processing system and producing data products targeting end users.
- Knowledge of and experience in working with space weather end user requirements.
- Experience in working with data models.
- Experience in participating international industry contracts.
- Experience in communicating with international partners including space agencies, international entities and scientific community.
- Experience in explaining or lecturing space weather related topics to academic community, students and general public.
- Experience in acceptance testing and validation techniques applied within the space weather domain.
