**THE ROLE & THE TEAM**:
As a Principal Applied Scientist working on AI research in the Size and Fit organization you will execute on bold research experiments, help to drive our scientific roadmap, and work with science leaders and exceptional scientists to create AI driven solutions with today's most exciting approaches from Deep Learning, Computer Vision, NLP, Reinforcement Learning, and Bayesian Inference for the good of customers. You will be creating solutions for highly challenging and impactful customer problems within the size and fit domain for millions of Zalando customers.

We are looking for an experienced practitioner and a thought leader with excellent scientific and technical expertise, solid oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated passion for fast-paced research and production environments, solving hard problems and advancing the state-of-the-art.

- Act as a thought leader in Applied Science and AI research raising the scientific bar across your team and Zalando through engaging in rigorous peer reviews, and internal and external publications in top-tier international conferences
- Work closely with science leaders, engineering, product & business experts to incorporate their expertise into your data science experimentations and bring our state-of-the-art solutions to customers
- Drive acquisition and experimentation with new data sources as needed with high potential for impact and governance on data quality and availability
- Empower the team to stay up-to-date with the latest research in computer vision, machine learning, deep learning and AI. Provide egoless and constructive scientific feedback to peers. Coach senior and junior colleagues to excel at their work

**WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF**:

- Ph.D. or Masters in Data Science / Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Computer Science or a relevant quantitative field (Ph.D. preferred)
- 5+ years of industry or academic experience leveraging AI and complex data from varying sources to solve difficult problems
- Excellent oral and writing communication skills. Solid publication track record in major conferences and journals
- Extensive hands-on experience in tackling real world challenging problems using machine learning and deep learning on large scale projects, ideally from the problem definition, data selection, literature screening and experimentation to their production deployment, monitoring and maintenance
- Experience developing mid
- Expert in Python (and packages like numpy, scipy, pandas),TensorFlow (keras, slim), Caffe2, Pytorch. Hands-on experience with Docker, Git, AWS EC2, S3, Postgresql, or other RDBMS. Nice to have: Stan, PyMC, DataBricks
