The fanciest aspect of science is its outcomes will contribute to our daily life, but how does a paper become a product? Led by Dr. Keplinger, the MPI-IS Robotic Materials Department is working on robotic prototypes showing to the public the advantages and potentials of our artificial muscle. Rather than putting labors into fabrication, we would like to design and build a production line of the artificial muscle to meeting the quantity needs of robots. In this specific case, we will focus on modifying a heat press for heat sealing plastic films in desired patterns.

**Your profile**:
We are looking for talented students who are pursuing a Master of Science in physics (Physik), mechanical engineering (Maschinenbau), mechatronics (Mechatronik), or related fields to support our research as student assistants (HiWis).

Applicants should
- have high motivation
- be pursuing a master’s degree
- be currently enrolled in a German university
- have strong academic performance in relevant bachelor’s and master’s courses.
- want to work in an international and interdisciplinary research group.
- have good oral and written communication skills in English.
- Be able to work on site at the Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart

We are especially interested in applicants who have
- experience in CAD, engineering drawing, and rapid prototyping techniques
- interest and/or experience in
- industrial production
- automatic production
- designing and setting up production lines

**Your tasks**:
**Possible tasks include**:

- designing and assembling heat-transferring plate
- testing the thermal stability
- designing and painting engineering drawings of molds
- testing the strength of heat seals

**We offer**:
Master students holding a Bachelor’s degree will be paid €12,68 per hour. An initial contract will be offered for three months. A modernly equipped workplace, a strongly international working environment, as well as the affiliation to a daycare center for young children.
