**The Position**:
Within the Biomedical AI Team, we look for a motivated and independent scientist that applies modern AI technology to histology. Computer vision, coding, microscopy, life science and pathology are all interconnected in this interdisciplinary opportunity. This role involves a tight involvement in early clinical research and offers plenty of opportunities to drive your own ideas on how computer vision can distill more relevant data from medical images.

***Tasks & responsibilities
***:

- In your new role you will work within the lab of Biomedical AI in Discovery Research Germany and you interact closely with the labs of Molecular Pathology, Histopathology and Viral Vectors.
- As Scientist you will be responsible for the image analysis of histopathological samples from all research departments at our major research site.
- You will design and develop new python-based computer vision / deep learning approaches on histology data from within our global research organization.
- As team member in global research project teams, you will closely collaborate with colleagues from our research departments and with external partners.
- You will operate, maintain, and trouble shoot state-of-the-art microscopes and automated slide scanners in a histopathology team.
- By automating lab-workflows you will help to provide analyses in an increasingly efficient manner.
- Publishing your results and methods in peer reviewed journals and presentations on relevant conferences is also part of your new role.

***Requirements**:

- Master’s degree in biophysics, physics, computer science, biomedical sciences, or a related field with microscopy expertise (in-depth understanding of technology including advanced methods - verified by publications), PhD is a plus
- In-depth understanding of life science and biological questions
- Programming expertise in a professional environment (e.g. Python)
- Practical experience in deep learning applied to image analysis (Tensorflow, Pytorch, scikit-image, open-cv, digital pathology software like HALO or Visiopharm)
- Data science / bioinformatics data analysis know-how (practical experience with e.g. scikit-learn, numpy, pandas and / or R)
- Goal oriented personality with good interpersonal skills, team orientation and good communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to experts from other fields Fluency in English (written and spoken), German is a plus
