BS in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
- Programming experience in C and scripting languages like Ruby, Python or Bash
- Experience developing CI and testing automation systems
- Experience with distribution build systems
- Experience in maintaining a Linux distribution
Proficiency in the German language is not required for this position.
Job summary
We are building the foundation of the Amazon EC2 virtualization platforms. Our teams are responsible for the development and maintenance of the Amazon hypervisors and Linux Kernels that make up the engine of the Amazon EC2 compute servers. The Dresden based teams also own the development and support of the Linux operating system kernel and the supporting user space components running on almost every Amazon Server worldwide. We are looking for a Sr System Development Engineer to work on the low layer of Amazon EC2 software stack, debugging user level services that interact with the Linux kernel.
You will develop, maintain and keep secure the foundational components of Amazon EC2. You will monitor live operation metrics to ensure that we are delivering the best experience to our customers at any time.
Key job responsibilities
- Assess security vulnerabilities in open source software components
- Provide updates for rpm packages containing security and functional fixes
- Develop and maintain solutions for monitoring virtualization host resources
- Review code of your peers and have your code reviewed (C, C++, Python, Perl, Shell)
- Write design documentation and lead reviews with the team
- Hire and mentor junior team members
- Work includes leading team projects
- This role includes on-call responsibility.
A day in the life
- Get some coding done
- Regularly meet with peers, mentors and manager 1:1
- Grab lunch with the team or whoever is in the office
- Get some more coding done and resolve tickets that have been bugging you
- Experience in virtualization (Xen, KVM) technologies
- Experience in finding and fixing security issues
