The Fraunhofer Institute of Foundry, Composites and Processing Technology (IGCV) at the location "Am Technologiezentrum 2" is now offering a new position as a research assistant. Fibre placement technology is a highly automated manufacturing process for high-performance components in the aerospace industry that is able to place pre-impregnated CFRP tapes close to the final contour and in line with the load path. According to the state of the art, however, process-specific requirements and possibilities are usually not considered or not taken into account enough, which means that lightweight construction potential is lost in many cases. For the production of a helicopter side shell, an optimisation of the fibre architecture based on the production process is to be developed and evaluated in comparison with conventional component design. The optimisation should combine the results of structural and process simulation and thus enable an intelligent closed-loop design. The results can optionally be validated by prototypical production of the component. **What you will do** - Conception of a toolstack for the integrated optimisation of process and design properties - Implementation of prototypical software in the defined toolstack (e.g. Python) Application for the optimisation of a composite side shell for a hybrid-electric helicopter**What you bring to the table** - Interest in the practical solution of optimisation problems - Programming skills, e.g. in Python or Matlab - Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or computer engineering Experience with CATIA and ANSYS advantageous**What you can expect** We offer flexible working hours, excellent facilities and the opportunity to play an active role in the research and development of efficient manufacturing processes for composite structures.
