München, Deutschland Gallagher Re Vollzeit

**Introduction**

Join us at Gallagher Re, the trailblazers of the reinsurance world, where every day brings new opportunities to shape the future. We empower our clients with cutting-edge analytics and insights, providing them the confidence to make strategic decisions that transform industries. As a team member, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, translating data into impactful solutions and taking the reins of your career like never before.

**Overview**

Gallagher Re has a brand new opportunity for a Global Flood Peril Lead to join our Property Research Team. The successful team focus on providing catastrophe modelling solutions to solve our clients’ (re)insurance needs. Catastrophe modelling plays a key role in the (re)insurance industry, helping to determine the capital and ultimately reinsurance requirements of (re)insurance companies. A number of catastrophe modelling options are available in the market and it is very important to understand their strengths and weaknesses, as well as develop alternative proprietary solutions, in order to help our clients form their ‘view of risk’. The role of model evaluation and model development is rapidly expanding, as more data becomes available, more models are built, regulation makes stricter demands on model users and, generally, the sophistication of model users increases.

The individual we are seeking would be the global lead involved in all stages of flood model research, evaluation and development projects, including producing commercially relevant reports and presenting results to internal stakeholders and external clients.

We are advertising this role in London, Munich, Paris, Zurich and North America.

**How you'll make an impact**
- Carry out flood catastrophe model research and evaluation by
- collecting & processing third party data, e.g. hydrologic observations, hazard layers, outputs from climate change models, academic vulnerability curves
- analysing & validating catastrophe model outputs
- producing/editing evaluation reports
- Contribute to catastrophe model development for flood risk quantification
- Enhance the design, planning, coordination and production of relevant model sensitivity analyses for different territories (world-wide coverage)
- Working with account teams to deliver bespoke risk solutions to clients
- Research on flood-specific topics from the scientific literature, including climate change, as requested by our clients,
- Effectively communicate with team members, business-units, brokers and clients
- Present technical solutions to internal and external clients in a digestible manner
- Collaborate with model vendor experts to understand their new models or updates, and compare / contrast choices made between model vendors
- Write reports, create presentations, produce plots and proof-read documents
- Support team members on automating output generation processes
- Liaise with offices and teams world-wide and participate in business-travel as required
- Coordinate with academic partners to ensure academic partnerships meet both the technical and commercial requirements of Gallagher Re
- Present at industry and academic conferences
- (Senior role) Collaborate with and provide guidance to junior specialists of the team to undertake model development, model evaluation and adjustment projects
- There will likely be opportunities to work on other perils e.g. drought, bushfire, tropical cyclone and others.

**About you**
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Good knowledge of programming in R, Python, SQL or equivalent
- Ability to form and hold an independent view on technical matters
- High level of competence with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail
- Team player, strong collaborator
- Experience in visualising spatial data (R, ArcGIS/QGis, Python or equivalent)
- A genuine interest in (re)insurance and catastrophe risk management
