Fraunhofer is actively involved in the field of quantum technologies and operates the first quantum computer in Germany (Ehningen) together with IBM. In this innovative environment, ITWM is establishing a competence center on quantum computing. CC-HPC at the Fraunhofer ITWM is located at the interface between high performance computing and quantum computing and is dedicated to the software stack between quantum algorithms and quantum hardware. For the further development of this research field, we are looking for support as soon as possible.

**What you will do**

Many quantum algorithms, such as variational algorithms, are hybrid and divide the problem into a classical and a quantum part. You will take part in utilizing new ideas that takes current hybrid quantum algorithms to the next level. E.g. by using preoptimization or improving the optimizer.

**What you bring to the table**
- A successfully completed university degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Natural Sciences
- Interest in research and development in the field of high performance computing and quantum computing
- Experience with HPC programming and/or cloud integration
- Sound mathematical background
- Initial programming experience in the field of quantum computing
- Significant programming experience in at least one of the leading classical programming languages (such as C, C++ or Python)
- Experience with software versioning tools (such as git or svn)
- Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken
