The Franconian International School (FIS) in Erlangen, located in southern Germany, serves primarily the international community of the Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg and educates students in an international environment according to high academic standards. It provides an atmosphere respectful of diverse cultures and promotes responsible global citizenship. The school is committed to promoting international and intercultural experiences for its students. The students at the FIS come from over 40 different nations.

**Contract Type**:Until the end of the current school year with the possibility of extension**

**Responsibilities**:
1. Program Planning and Evaluation
- Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery and evaluation of the school counseling program in accordance with school goals
- Maintain accurate, secure and confidential records as appropriate
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
- Collect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasis
- Communicate the goals and services of the counseling program to the school community to enhance visibility of the Counseling Team and to promote understanding of the services offered

2. System Support
- Support and consult with families and staff effectively through facilitating meetings, workshops, and professional learning sessions around psychoeducational and wellbeing-related topics, as required to meet student needs and school goals
- Actively engage in regular professional learning to maintain and enhance the counseling program and to support systemic needs

3. Preventive and Responsive Services
- Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling to students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations relevant to student success
- Implement an effective referral and follow-up process to assist students and families seeking external resources
- Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services
- Collaborate with the Learning Support Team to identify and support students, assisting in the development of student Individual Education Plans where needed
- As part of the Safeguarding Team, maintain current understanding of safeguarding and child protection legislation and standards
- As part of the Crisis Response Team, respond to student, family and school crisis and emergency situations

4. Individual and Group Planning and Curriculum
- Work closely with students, teachers and families to plan, monitor and understand students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and learning growth and development, to take action on their next steps personally and academically
- Provide individual attention and proactive school programming to support all students’ growth in self-confidence, social cohesion and inclusion, healthy relationships, positive attitudes towards individual and cultural diversity, health, and positive academic attitudes and engagement; for success now and in the future
- Provide proactive leadership which engages all stakeholders in the design, implementation (including teaching and/or co-teaching), and evaluation of SEL/Wellbeing activities and services; including transitions, peer-mentoring, Advisory, curricular instruction, and other wellbeing-related programs and events-as articulated through Counseling and Pastoral Team direction
- A degree in School Counseling, School Social Work, Educational Psychology or the equivalent from an accredited graduate school
- Counseling experience in a school setting, preferably with the IB program
- A collaborative approach to learning and leading, with outstanding organization and communication skills
- Intercultural sensitivity and humility
- Value and respect for the views and needs of children and adolescents
- An understanding of the experiences of students with learning exceptionalities, EAL students, and children in transition
- Knowledge of current legislation and standards in relation to the safeguarding and protection of children and adolescents
- German language proficiency advantageous
