**Your role**:
In our Clinical Biomarkers & Technology organization within Clinical Measurement Sciences we have an exciting opening for a Director, Head of Pathology in Clinical Development. In this role you'll lead a team which drives the development of new clinical patient selection strategies and advance the implementation of innovative tissue-based biomarker technologies across programs. You develop and integrate new technologies and test devices for clinical patient diagnoses in close collaboration with experts in the field of Digital Pathology, Clinical Genomics, Biomarker Assay Development, Validation and Implementation as well as the Clinical Program Teams.

Through shaping and driving study designs for improved and efficient patient selection by tissue-based analysis, you provide expert pathology advice and guidance for biomarker analysis, data interpretation and decision making in translational and clinical programs, also including pathology guidance for Companion Diagnostics development, interaction with diagnostic partners and Clinical Research Organizations.

In addition to this, you'll lead the company's external pathology network, maintain and build up new collaborations with academic and commercial technology & solution providers to contribute strategic and tactical directions for state of the art and innovative tissue-based biomarker testing.

This role is intended to be based at our headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany, but can potentially be operated from other locations in Germany or other countries.

**Who you are:
- An MD and board certified in anatomic pathology with 10+ years of professional hands-on experience in a CRO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology industry or equivalent is desirable
- Publication track record and
- Proven track record in cancer biology, cancer genetics and ideally immunology
- Excellent understanding of clinical test / medical device development and implementation
- Background in relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., ICH) and Good Clinical Practice
- Hands on expertise of clinical biomarker development processes in the pharmaceutical industry
- Good understanding of the implementation of biomarker test(s) in clinical trials
- Excellent understanding of digital pathology and its implementation
- Strong analytical approach, results driven
- Fluency in English (oral and written)
- Excellent team player and listener with collaborative working style; able to build strong professional relationships easily
- Team leading and people development experience
- Strong communication skills (oral, listening and written)

The position can be based flexibly within Europe.
