- The Role

As a Staff Data Scientist at HelloFresh, you will work with our global team of machine learning engineers and data scientists to support one of the fastest-growing e-commerce businesses. Data-driven decision making is at the core of our company culture and you will have a fundamental part in shaping our success extracting insights at petabyte-scale.

What you’ll do
- Provide solutions for complex business problems, enabling insights that can empower better decision-making
- Help set the direction for where/how machine learning should be used at HelloFresh
- ‘Lead by example’ by rapidly prototyping complex machine learning solutions in the domains of lifetime value predictions, pricing optimization, recommendations, and more
- Propose achievable solutions to the most complex science problems at HelloFresh
- Explore and analyze customer behavior, digital metrics, and logistics data in order to detect growth and innovation opportunities for the HelloFresh product.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring for multiple teams of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
- Establish and evangelize best practices for Data Science across the organization

What you’ll bring
- Phd / MSc in a scientific discipline with a strong focus on experimentation and causal inference (e.g.,Physics, Engineering, Econometrics, Epidemiology / Biostatistics, Neuroscience, Statistics, Political Science, Psychology)
- Extensive experience building machine learning / statistical models
- Strong, proven track record solving complex business problems with machine learning within a fast-paced business
- Expert level ability to solve machine learning problems with modern machine learning software stack (e.g. Python, Tensorflow, Pytorch, Spark, PyMC) as well as modern machine learning algorithm stack (Transformers, Graph Neural Networks, boosted decision trees, reinforcement learning, GenAI, statistical inference)
- Familiarity with cloud development environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Solid grasp of advanced statistical concepts (e.g., Bayesian statistics; multilevel and generalized linear models; timeseries; bootstrapping)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Publications in well-recognized journals and conferences
- Ability to communicate complex analyses to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
