The testbed consists of several base stations distributed throughout the city of Ilmenau, allowing localization of mobile endpoints within this area. However, the geometric arrangement of the base stations influences the achievable accuracy. This phenomenon is called **Dilution of Precision (DOP)**. Within this thesis, the DOP for different base station arrangements must be evaluated to obtain the best localization accuracy within different scenarios. This includes performance analysis with an increased number of base stations and heuristics to select the best-performing pairs of base stations in scenarios with multiple base stations. This selection can be based on different parameters, like the signal-to-noise ratio at different base stations.

What you will do
- You conduct literature research on the principles of TDoA localization and Dilution of Precision
- You familiarize yourself with the existing framework
- You describe the DOP value with different base station arrangements and different numbers of base stations
- You develop different heuristics to select the best-performing base stations based on accuracy-determining parameters, like the signal-to-noise ratio
- You carry out simulative verification of the investigations

What you bring to the table
- You are currently studying electrical engineering, information technology, mathematics, or similar
- You have experience in programming, preferably Python
- You are interested in localization and the development of new algorithms

Weekly working hours are determined by agreement. You can start from now on (as an intern for a period of at least three months ). You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can flexibly determine the working days. After your studies, you have the option of working with us full or part time.
