The accelerator division has as its mission the design and operation of cutting-edge accelerator facilities as well as accelerator R&D. PETRA IV is the planned new synchrotron radiation facility which is currently undergoing its financial approval process. The goal of the project is to replace the 2.3 km long PETRA III storage ring with a new ultra-low emittance ring based on multi-bend achromat technology. The accelerator division is also actively involved in R&D activities for the future circular collider at CERN and for SuperKEKB.

- Strong academic record
