Location: Berlin, Munich, or Hamburg The Government Relations and Public Policy team covers a wide range of responsibilities: government affairs and government relations; policy and issue area expertise; risk and crisis management and mitigation; outreach, coalitions, and partnerships. The mission of the team is to earn trust and prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats to TikTok. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Internet entertainment services, with a profound knowledge of the regulatory and (geo-)political landscape concerning privacy and (cyber) security. Responsibilities - Strategic Advocacy: Develop and advocate for TikTok's positions on key privacy and security issues, aligning them with our principles while incorporating DACH's specific markets needs. - Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with government officials, regulators, industry and trade associations, academia and NGOs to advocate for the company’s interests and influence policy outcomes. - Policy Analysis: Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments across the areas of data protection and security, including children's privacy, transparency, data sovereignty and cross-border data transfers, trade, digital advertising, privacy enhancing technologies, and cybersecurity, and assessing their impact on the company’s operations and providing strategic recommendations. Representation: Represent the company at governmental meetings, public hearings, industry conferences, and other relevant events, articulating the company’s positions on various policy issues. - Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Legal, Product, and other relevant teams to provide expert guidance on privacy and security policy matters, ensuring responsible product development and compliance with evolving/upcoming regulations. - Reporting and Compliance: Provide regular reports on privacy and security policy developments, advocacy efforts, and potential risks to address public policy concerns. Minimum Qualifications - Experience: 5+ years relevant experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field, with a strong understanding of political and regulatory environments on privacy, data protection, international data flows and geo-politics. - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. - Language Skills: Fluency in German and English, both written and oral (Will partner externally with German officials & English is the working language of the company) - Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to assess complex policy issues and their implications for the business. - Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively. - Relationship Management: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, politicians, industry leaders, think tanks, trade organisations, academia and NGOs. Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with global privacy frameworks and standards (., GDPR, CCPA) and emerging technologies and their implications for privacy and security (., AI, cloud computing). - Demonstrated interest and/or experience working in a tech environment (company or other organisation); - Experience working independently and a passion for tracking big challenges; - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; - Strong research, analysis, and project management abilities; - Motivation to learn and grow, as well as motivate and inspire others. - Willingness to travel within DACH and occasionally to other European locations as required.
