Thesis (BA/MA): Integration of measurement technology in micro-machining systems

We are dedicated to bridging the gap between science and practice in the field of industrial production and offer application-oriented system solutions for the entire spectrum of industrial tasks – from product development to the production process, maintenance of capital goods, and recycling of products to the design and management of factory operations.   In the Manufacturing Technologies department, we work on the development, provision, and adaptation of production and manufacturing technologies for the manufacture of innovative products. We develop new machines and machining strategies on behalf of our customers, optimize existing production facilities, and implement future-oriented tool concepts. Our core competencies include machining technology, precision machining, cleaning and blasting processes, additive manufacturing, and production and machine measurement technology.   What you will do   Machining is one of the most commonly used manufacturing processes. Milling and grinding with machining centers in particular enable flexible and precise production. Recent research findings have revealed that a new type of cutting tool has a positive impact, especially for the machining of high-performance materials such as technical ceramics. In order to integrate the manufacturing process more efficiently into existing production chains and to enable an effortless transition to subsequent post-processing steps, an optical measuring system for assessing manufacturing quality is to be integrated.  The aim of the work is to further develop an existing measuring system and integrate it into a production facility.     What you bring to the table   Degree in mechanical engineering, production engineering, information technology in mechanical engineering, physical engineering sciences, Independence, determination, and a prudent and solution-oriented approach to work Proactive and solution-oriented approach to work Knowledge of programming, preferably Python and MATLAB Knowledge of manufacturing technology, design engineering, and automation technology Experience with CAD/CAM   What you can expect   Practical experience in analyzing and visualizing process data from an industrial manufacturing plant in the field of additive manufacturing A great team and an open, collegial working environment Insight into modern technologies and innovative manufacturing processes Collaboration with industrial partners Flexible scheduling for your thesis Opportunity to incorporate your own ideas into your work   The thesis can be supervised at TU Berlin or carried out in cooperation with other universities. No remuneration will be paid. The duration of the thesis is based on the requirements of your university.
