Several new engineering positions are being opened within Shipping Domain in our Dreilinden office located in the greater Berlin area. We are looking for a Staff Back-end Engineer who will be part of the Global Shipping team and who can help us build exciting products at eBay. Every day, millions of users sell and ship their wares using eBay. Our team supports this diverse community by building shipping products around the globe, helping individual sellers and small businesses to meet the growing expectations of online buyers. We are a product-oriented team, we move fast, and stay curious.You will be working on new experiences for millions of customers. You will lead the development of modern Java/Spring Boot based web applications by developing system designs, helping define the technical roadmap, guiding the team on all technical aspects, and implementing code. You will report to a Sr. Manager of engineering, as well as work closely with the wider engineering team of the new engineering hub.It’s a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative, transparent and highly technical team culture.eBay requires employees to be present in the Dreilinden office three days per week. What you will accomplish:Translate open product problem into a designed cross-component solutionContribute to the design and development of scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.Participate in architectural discussions to drive system-level decisions and innovative solutions.Create design documents and technical specifications for key projects.Break down the work into meaningful milestones and provisioning estimationsDevelop and maintain server-side applications using Java and SpringBoot.Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, following coding standards and guidelines.Conduct and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and consistency.Work closely with product managers, and other engineers to deliver features and improvements.Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and system issuesWhat you will bring:Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar technical degree, with 9+ years of experience designing and developing highly scalable web applications.Proven experience building scalable backend systems with Java / Spring Boot.Experience building RESTful APIs and implementing microservices architectures.Proficiency in working with relational databases and/or NoSQL databasesBasic understanding of modern UX frameworks like React.jsExperience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines and knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologiesProficiency in writing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end testsHaving work experience with Kotlin and Prometheus Query Language is a pluseBay requires employees to be present in the Dreilinden office three days per week on average#LI-SH1Please see the for information regarding how eBay handles your personal data collected when you use the eBay Careers website or apply for a job with eBay.eBay is an equal opportunity employer.
