Grid Engineer

Job DescriptionThe Grid Engineer plays a critical role in the development, construction, and optimisation of renewable energy projects across Germany. This position acts as the primary technical point of contact, addressing commercial, regulatory, and design-related challenges to ensure the successful delivery of renewable projects from early-stage development through to execution. The main aim is to support Germany's renewables portfolio, with flexibility for projects elsewhere if required.Lead the engineering phase of renewable projects, overseeing technical assessments related to grid infrastructure design, planning, cost estimation, support procurement, environmental permitting, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and internal approvals. Evaluate grid infrastructure feasibility, constructability, risk assessment, and CAPEX estimates during early project phases.Serve as the technical lead for the grid infrastructure scope during the procurement phase. This includes defining specifications and requirements, evaluating technical proposals, and supporting contract negotiations.Plan, lead, and document project design reviews until construction, ensuring technical consistency with economic, scheduling, and regulatory objectives.Prepare and Quality assure technical specifications in grid infrastructure tenders.Oversee grid elements and works of project contracts, ensuring technical quality and compliance with specifications during execution.Manage technical interfaces between contractors.Support technical due diligence processes.Attends, supervises, and witnesses factory inspections and acceptance testsSupervise third-party engineers and external design services as required.Conducts technical analysis during design and construction to identify non-conformities and recommend solutions for design or technical issues.QualificationsExperience with medium and high voltage grid connections, including overhead and underground transmission lines and substations.Proven track record of handling Grid and High Voltage (HV) infrastructure during the development phase in Germany.Hands-on experience in both the design and building of grid connections.Comprehensive understanding of grid connection procedures and grid codes as outlined by German regulatory standards.Experience with underground cable system design and routing.Knowledge of power system studies. Proficiency in related software is an advantage.Willingness and ability to conduct regular site visits.High attention to detail and ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines.Commercially astute with a strong understanding of project economics and value drivers.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across internal and external stakeholders.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and EnglishAdditional InformationAt Statkraft, you’ll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match.
